Terms of use

Last updated:

These terms are the rules for using KitabPadhoIndia. We have kept them as simple as we can. But they are still a legal agreement between you and us, so please read them carefully.

The short version

  • KitabPadhoIndia helps students of the same college buy and sell used books and study instruments.
  • Anyone can browse without an account. To create an account, you must be 18 or older and a current student. Only students with a verified college ID can sell, chat, post Wanted requests, confirm exchanges and rate.
  • We are not part of your deal. We do not handle payments, and we do not inspect or guarantee items.
  • Meet only at a campus pickup point during the day. Inspect the item, then pay in person by UPI or cash. Never pay in advance.
  • Be honest and respectful. No fake listings, photocopied books, prohibited items or harassment.
  • Something wrong? Tap Report, or block the person. Automatic safety checks and our team help keep KitabPadhoIndia safe.

This summary is only a guide. The full terms below are what apply.

1. Accepting these terms

KitabPadhoIndia is run by [Legal entity name], registered at [Registered address]. In these terms, "KitabPadhoIndia", "we", "us" and "our" mean [Legal entity name]. "You" means anyone who uses KitabPadhoIndia.

These terms apply to our website (kpi.patienceai.tech), our web app (kpi.patienceai.tech/app) and our Android app (downloaded from kpi.patienceai.tech/download). Together, we call these "the service".

By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

Please also read our Privacy Policy. It explains how we collect, use and protect your personal data. Our Safety guidelines and Prohibited items list are part of these terms.

These terms are an electronic record under the Information Technology Act, 2000. They do not need a physical or digital signature.

2. Who can use KitabPadhoIndia

Anyone can browse listings, Semester Kits and colleges without an account. To create an account, you must:

  • be 18 years of age or older;
  • be currently enrolled as a student at the college you choose in your profile;
  • have only one account (one person, one account);
  • give true and accurate information about yourself, and keep it up to date; and
  • not have been banned from KitabPadhoIndia before.

If you are under 18, please do not create an account.

Before you sign in, you tick a round checkbox to agree to these terms and our Privacy Policy and to confirm that you are 18 or older. The sign-in buttons work only after you tick it.

Your account is only for you. Do not share it, sell it or let anyone else use it. You are responsible for what happens in your account, so keep your login details safe. If you think someone else has got into your account, change your password or secure your Google account, and email us at [email protected] with the subject "Account security".

You can sign in with Google or with an email and password. If you use Google, Google's own terms also apply to your Google account.

Your sign-in is a shared PatienceAI account, which you can also use for other PatienceAI apps. These terms cover your use of KitabPadhoIndia. Other PatienceAI apps may have their own terms.

3. What KitabPadhoIndia is (and is not)

KitabPadhoIndia is an online platform. It connects students of the same college so they can buy and sell used books and study instruments, such as drawing boards, mini-drafters, scientific calculators and lab coats.

The service includes:

  • Listings of books, instruments and kits posted by students.
  • Semester Kits: checklists of items for a semester at your college, showing which items seniors have listed.
  • Wanted requests: post what you need, and get an in-app notification when a matching item is listed.
  • In-app chat, so you do not have to share your phone number. You can send photos and short videos, and see when the other person is typing or has read your message.
  • Ratings after a completed exchange.
  • Block and report tools, and automatic safety checks on listings and messages.

What we are not

  • We are not a party to any deal. Every sale is directly between the buyer and the seller.
  • We do not process payments. You pay the seller in person, by UPI or cash, after you inspect the item. Because we never handle your money, we cannot refund or reverse a payment.
  • We do not own, sell, store, inspect, deliver or guarantee any item.
  • We run automatic safety checks on listings and messages (see Reports, moderation, suspension and termination), but they cannot catch everything. Passing these checks does not mean that we have checked a listing or message for accuracy, or approved it.
  • We never ask for advance payment. If anyone asks you to pay "KitabPadhoIndia" to reserve, unlock or deliver an item, it is not us. Please report them.

The Android app

The Android app is not on the Play Store. Download it only from kpi.patienceai.tech/download. Updates arrive inside the app, and Android asks you to confirm each install. We are not responsible for copies of the app from anywhere else.

Fees

KitabPadhoIndia is free for students today. We may introduce optional paid features later. If we do, we will give clear notice first.

4. Your responsibilities

You are responsible for your listings, your messages and your deals. In particular:

When you sell

  • List only items that you own and are allowed to sell.
  • List only books, instruments and kits used for studies.
  • Add 1 to 6 real photos of the actual item. Do not use photos from the internet or from other listings.
  • Describe the item honestly. Choose the right condition grade: A (Like new), B (Good) or C (Usable). Mention any damage, missing parts, writing or highlighting.
  • Set your own price. Our suggested prices are only a guide.
  • Remove your listing when the item is no longer available.

When you buy

  • Ask your questions in the in-app chat before you meet.
  • Inspect the item carefully before you pay. If it is not as described, you do not have to buy it.
  • Pay only in person, after you have seen the item. Never pay in advance.

When you meet

  • Meet only at a campus pickup point listed in the app, such as the Library gate or the Main canteen. Meet during the day.
  • Be on time. If your plans change, tell the other person in the chat.
  • Keep your conversation in the app. Never share OTPs, UPI PINs, passwords or bank details.
  • After the exchange, both of you tap "Exchange done" in the app. When both of you confirm, the item is marked SOLD. Only tap it if the exchange really happened.

Always

  • Follow these terms, the law and your college's rules.
  • Be respectful to other students, campus ambassadors and our team.
  • Read and follow our Safety guidelines.

5. Prohibited items and conduct

Prohibited items

Do not list, sell or post a Wanted request for anything on our Prohibited items list. This includes photocopied or pirated books, medicines, and anything stolen, fake or illegal. We may update the list from time to time.

Prohibited conduct

You must not:

  • harass, abuse, threaten, bully, stalk or discriminate against anyone, online or in person;
  • send spam or unrelated promotions, or post the same item again and again;
  • post fake or misleading listings, or list items you do not have;
  • use someone else's college ID, account, name or photos, or pretend to be someone else, including a campus ambassador or a member of our team;
  • upload a fake, edited or borrowed college ID;
  • ask for advance payment or a "token amount", or try to cheat anyone in any way;
  • scrape, copy or collect data from the service using bots, scripts or any other method;
  • use other users' details for anything except a deal on KitabPadhoIndia;
  • try to hack, overload or break the service, get around its security, or access accounts or data that are not yours;
  • try to get around our safety features, for example by disguising phone numbers, email addresses or UPI IDs in a chat, or by contacting someone who has blocked you;
  • create more than one account, or a new account after we have suspended or banned you;
  • give fake ratings or make false reports; or
  • use the service for anything illegal.

Content you must not post

The Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 ("IT Rules, 2021") require us to tell you about content you must not share. So you must not post, upload, share or send anything (in listings, photos, chats, Wanted requests, ratings or your profile) that:

  • belongs to someone else, when you have no right to share it;
  • is obscene, pornographic or paedophilic, or invades anyone's privacy, including bodily privacy;
  • insults or harasses anyone on the basis of gender;
  • is racially or ethnically objectionable;
  • relates to or encourages money laundering or gambling;
  • is harmful to children;
  • infringes any patent, trademark, copyright or other proprietary right (for example, photocopied or scanned copies of books);
  • misleads people about where a message came from, or knowingly and intentionally spreads false or misleading information;
  • impersonates another person;
  • threatens the unity, integrity, defence, security or sovereignty of India, India's friendly relations with other countries, or public order; encourages anyone to commit a crime; stops a crime from being investigated; or insults any other nation;
  • contains a virus or any other code designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the working of any computer system;
  • is clearly false and untrue, and is posted to mislead or harass someone for money or to cause harm; or
  • breaks any law in force in India.

If you break these rules, we may remove your content and suspend or close your account. See Reports, moderation, suspension and termination.

6. College ID verification and campus ambassadors

Anyone can browse listings, Semester Kits and colleges without an account. With an account, you can report, get notifications and submit your college ID. Only students with a verified college ID can sell, chat, post Wanted requests, confirm exchanges and rate.

How verification works

  1. You upload a clear photo of your own, valid college ID in the app.
  2. A campus ambassador for your college reviews it, usually within 24 hours.
  3. If it is approved, your account is verified. If it is not approved, the app shows the reason, and you can upload a clearer photo.

Your ID photo is private. Only you and the reviewers can see it, and it is deleted right after review. Our Privacy Policy has more details.

Campus ambassadors

Campus ambassadors are people we have authorised to review college IDs for their college. An ambassador must:

  • use ID photos only to check that a person is a student of that college;
  • never copy, screenshot, download or share an ID photo or the details on it; and
  • keep what they see confidential, and review every request fairly.

If you think an ambassador has misused your information, please tell our Grievance Officer at [email protected] (subject "Grievance: …").

What verification does not mean

Verification only shows that a reviewer saw a college ID that seemed to match the profile at that time. It is not a background check. It does not guarantee anyone's identity, honesty or behaviour. So always follow our Safety guidelines, even with verified students.

We may remove a verification if we believe the ID was fake, borrowed or is no longer valid, or if you break these terms.

7. Ratings and reviews

When both the buyer and the seller tap "Exchange done", the item is marked SOLD. Each of you can then rate the other from 1 to 5 stars, and add a comment if you like. Each side can give only one rating per exchange.

Ratings and comments must be honest. This means:

  • Rate only your real experience of that exchange.
  • Do not offer or ask for anything in return for a rating.
  • Do not threaten anyone with a bad rating, or pressure them for a good one.
  • Do not create fake exchanges, or use other accounts, to boost anyone's ratings.
  • Keep comments respectful. Do not include abuse or anyone's personal details.

We may remove ratings or comments that break these rules, and take action against the accounts involved.

8. Your content and our licence

"Your content" means anything you add to the service, such as listing photos and descriptions, Wanted requests, chat messages, ratings and profile details.

  • You own your content. We do not claim ownership of your photos or text.
  • You give us a licence to use it in the service. This is a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, resize and display your content in the service. We use it only to run and provide the service.
  • You must have the right to post it. You promise that your content is yours to share, and that it does not break these terms or anyone else's rights.
  • The licence ends when you delete the content or your account. We may keep copies for a limited time where we need them for safety, to handle a report, or to follow the law.

The KitabPadhoIndia name and logo, and content we create (such as Semester Kits), belong to us or our licensors. Please do not copy or use them without our permission, except where the law allows.

9. Reports, moderation, suspension and termination

Reporting a problem

If something is wrong, tap the Report button on the listing or chat, or on the person's profile (long-press one of their messages to open it), and choose a reason. You need to be signed in to report.

  • Fake or misleading listing
  • Photocopied / pirated book
  • Prohibited item
  • Harassment or abuse
  • Didn't show up
  • Unsafe meet-up
  • Something else

Our team reviews reports. Please report honestly. Making a false report on purpose breaks these terms.

If you are in danger, or a crime has happened, call the police on 112 first. Then report it in the app.

Blocking

You can block another user from their profile. A blocked user cannot message you or start a new chat with you. You can unblock them in Settings.

Automatic safety checks

We check listings, messages, Wanted requests, profile names and reports automatically. Obvious abuse is blocked before anyone sees it. Phone numbers, email addresses and UPI IDs typed in a chat are hidden. Messages that look like scams are delivered with a warning. Content that looks suspicious may be reviewed by an AI safety model (Anthropic's Claude) and by our team. Our Privacy Policy explains what data these checks use.

What we may do

To keep KitabPadhoIndia safe and lawful, we may:

  • block, remove or hide listings, photos, videos, Wanted requests, messages or ratings;
  • give you a warning;
  • limit features for a while, for example stop you from sending chat messages for 24 hours if you keep posting content that our checks block;
  • remove your verification;
  • suspend your account for a period of time;
  • close your account permanently and stop you from opening a new one; and
  • share information with the police or other authorities when the law requires it.

We may do this if we believe you have broken these terms or the law, if someone's safety is at risk, or if the law requires it. We will usually tell you why. But we may act without notice when needed, for example to protect someone or to follow a legal order.

If you disagree with a decision

If you think we got it wrong, write to our Grievance Officer. See Intermediary status and grievances.

Changes to the service

We may change, pause or stop all or part of the service, for example for maintenance, for safety reasons or if we stop operating at a college. We will try to give you notice when we reasonably can.

10. Deleting your account

You can stop using the service at any time. To delete your account, open Settings in the app and tap Delete account, or email [email protected] with the subject "Account deletion request".

When you delete your account, your profile, your unsold listings and their photos, your Wanted requests, your notifications and your verification record are deleted. This cannot be undone. Your PatienceAI sign-in stays, because you may use it for other PatienceAI apps, unless you email us to delete it too.

We may keep some information for a limited time where we need it for safety, to settle a dispute, or because the law requires it. For example, chat messages are kept for up to 30 days so we can look into safety reports, and then deleted. Our Privacy Policy and our account deletion page explain more.

Some parts of these terms continue to apply after your account is deleted. These include Disclaimers and limitation of liability, Indemnity and Governing law and courts.

11. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

Nothing in these terms takes away rights that you have under Indian law and that cannot be limited by a contract, including your rights under consumer protection law.

Disclaimers

We work hard to keep KitabPadhoIndia useful and safe. But, as far as the law allows:

  • The service is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not promise that it will always work, be free of errors or be secure.
  • We do not guarantee the quality, safety, condition, legality or authenticity of any item, or that any listing or message is true.
  • We do not guarantee that a buyer or seller will turn up, complete a deal or behave well.
  • Verification, ratings, condition grades, suggested prices and Semester Kits are only guides, not promises. Always check items yourself, and check your college's official list of books and instruments.
  • You are responsible for your own decisions, deals and meet-ups.

Limitation of liability

As far as the law allows:

  • We are not liable for any loss or harm caused by other users, or by items, deals, meet-ups or disputes between users.
  • We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as loss of profit, data or opportunity.
  • Our total liability to you for all claims relating to the service will not be more than [Liability cap amount].

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for fraud, or any other liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

12. Indemnity

As far as the law allows, you agree to compensate and protect (indemnify) KitabPadhoIndia, our team and our campus ambassadors against any claims, losses, damages and reasonable costs, including reasonable legal fees, that arise from:

  • your breach of these terms or the law;
  • your content, such as your listings, photos or messages;
  • your deals or meet-ups with other users; or
  • your violation of anyone else's rights.

In simple words: if someone makes a claim against us because of something you did, you are responsible for it.

13. Intermediary status and grievances

KitabPadhoIndia is an intermediary under the Information Technology Act, 2000. We provide a platform where users post and share their own content. Listings, photos, videos, chat messages, Wanted requests and ratings are created by users. We do not write them or change what they say, apart from automatically hiding contact details (such as phone numbers) and offensive words in chats, and blocking or removing content that breaks these terms or the law. Each user is responsible for what they post.

As an intermediary, we have duties under the IT Rules, 2021. For example, we must publish our rules, remind you about them at least once a year, act on lawful orders from courts and government agencies, keep certain records for as long as the law requires, and run a grievance mechanism. When we learn about content that breaks these terms or the law, we may remove it or disable access to it.

Grievance Officer

You can contact our Grievance Officer about any complaint. This includes content on the service, these terms, or a decision we made about a report or your account.

Our Grievance page explains how to make a complaint and what happens next. Some complaints, such as those about intimate images or impersonation (including morphed images), must be acted on faster under the IT Rules, 2021.

If you are not happy with the Grievance Officer's decision, you may be able to appeal to the Grievance Appellate Committee set up by the Government of India under the IT Rules, 2021.

Where the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020 apply to the service, our Grievance Officer also handles complaints under those rules.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time, for example when we add features or when the law changes. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.

If a change is important, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect, and the app may ask you to agree to the updated terms.

If you keep using the service after a change takes effect, you accept the updated terms. If you do not agree, please stop using the service and delete your account.

15. Governing law and courts

These terms are governed by the laws of India.

The courts at [City] will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute about these terms or the service.

This does not take away any right you may have to file a complaint before a consumer commission under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

If you have a problem, please contact us first. Most issues can be sorted out quickly by talking to us.

16. Other legal points

  • If a court finds any part of these terms invalid, the rest of the terms still apply.
  • If we do not enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.
  • You may not transfer your account, or your rights under these terms, to anyone else. We may transfer our rights and duties under these terms, for example if our business is reorganised or sold. If that happens, we will tell you.
  • These terms, together with the documents they mention, are the whole agreement between you and us about the service.
  • If these terms are translated and the versions differ, the English version applies.
